Crochet Car Coat & Newsboy Cap

The Car Coat & Newsboy Cap Set... was done in single crochet and cross stitches, giving the top portion of the coat an open stitch work. As the project approached the end I wasn't sure what type of closure to use for the coat. Over a couple of days I had decided on a belt using the leftover yarn. The belt measured approximately 3" wide and 42" long... and it just didn't work well... so I went back to the drawing board and decided buttons would be the next choice... went into my box of notions and was lucky to find 4 buttons that were similar in color... and must say I am a better person for it... the buttons were a nice choice.

Thanks for commenting on my blog - I love your stuff! How did you learn to crochet? I'd would love to try it but I don't know anyone who can teach me! Can you recommend any teach-yourself books?
