Crochet Cables..... Oh My....

I had the good fortune of working half a day and where did I end up... just guess. Ok... stop... just stop... no I didn't go clothes shopping... I ended up at a Bookstore and while browsing... I came across Crochet Today! and its celebrating all that is fabulous about crochet and what better project could it offer me.... cables... Yahooweeeee!!!... I am so excited... my hands are actually itching.... (excuse me while I scratch)... ok... I'm back, Crochet Today! has some exciting projects and one of my New Years Resolution is to learn cables. There is a Cable Scarf, Fisherman Sweater, Snow Day Socks and so much more. I would love to hear what project(s) you would do.... I'm all ears.

I'm making the sweater and scarf, definitely! I like the socks too. I can't wait to see your finished items!

I finished the scarf, my first cable project. I loved the pattern, it was easy to catch on to and most all it was fun!! Unfortunately I used the wrong yarn. I used Red Heart Super Saver (that is all I had and couldn't wait to go to the store). It turned out kind of stiff and not soft at all. I am now working on the cable sampler blanket and I am having alot of fun with it. I have finished 4 blocks so far. I am using Caron Simply Soft in Bone because I love how soft it is and I can get it at Walmart. I also plan on making the sweater if the blanket turns out.

Hi Major Mom... WoW you are fast... well for me... I started working on the scarf and the cables were not coming along as I thought they should... I thought it was the yarn I used, which was the Mainstay brand in sage... so I scrapped that.. then I moved on to the snow-day sock... got as far as the gusset and tried it on.. no luck too small... also, I am working on a sweater for my niece and tried to take a break by starting the cable project.. so that may have been another reason for the project not coming out right.. so back to the drawing board... As far as the Red Heart yarn... try running the iron over it.. being sure to place a pillow slip over the scarf and steam it lightly as you move the iron over the scarf... that should soften it a little. I totally love Caron simply soft yarn for its softness and sheen.
