I am on a crochet marathon as of 5:00am this morning... working on a capelet for "Sue Rock Original Everyone's Survivors of Domestic Violence" charity event(www.suerock.blogspot.com)... Sue Hargett Rock created Sue Rock Originals to help us crocheters and knitters... and others as well.. broaden our creative vision with a social directive... she has inspired me to focus on others in need of comfort and love... Sue's charity event has enlightened me on the plight of survivors' of domestic violence and has given me some clarity on what women must deal with once they flee from their homes with children in tow from an abusive marriage/relationship... they leave everything behind seeking safety for their children as well as their well being.. as Sue stated in an e-mail to me "...because a woman who has lost everything... she shouldn't have to wear 'used' clothes"... with that in mind.. I am contributing my crocheting skills to a beautiful event and want women to have something new while acclimating to a new environment... and participating in this charity event is just the beginning of sharing my love of crocheting... Sue you really Rock!!!
I am tolling away on my fourth bohemian project... my fingers are screaming boucle fatigue!!!... but my crocheting addiction refuses to let me rest... Its amazing that this design has raised the heads of many... so here I have completed an attractive Bohemian Shrug with its Graphite Grey and varigated Nile Green boucle yarn... which is soft and ultra light... dare to make a fashion statement sporting this shrug with jeans and a fitted tee.... ok back to work for me.... another one to get done...wohooo.
Yesterday had a lovely time at the Urban Knit meet-up, which took place in Manhattan at a lovely spot called the I Gallery. Met some beautiful people and got the opportunity to participate in a knitting class, which I really enjoyed... learned how to cast on, the knit and purl stitches... and also to show my recent projects, which were the spring bling ensemble and my newest bohemian funk shrugs... Knitting is a whole new experience for me, the instructor was very knowledgeable and easy to work with... and I am sure that I will need to attend a few more of her classes to get it just right.. my daughter and her friend also attended and found it really fun... and looking forward to the next meet up.
Add this feminine ensemble (crop sweater/mesh skirt embellished with clear rhinestones & matching handbag) to your must have fashion collection... perfect for a social gathering with ankle wrap wedges or stepping out on the town with sexy and stylish sandals or just chilling with simple embellished thongs with rhinestones... all footwear at Nine West.
Now I felt comfortable working this project up, and searched for inspiration and came across Berroco's Beatrice Shrug pattern. I love to look at other designs and snag an idea from them... in this instance I decided to go with the tie front... my Bohemian Teal Twist Shrug..(woooo.. that was a mouth full) was crocheted with a variegated teal/brown boucle yarn with its bold color contrast and finished the edge with an espresso trim.. the bell sleeves were done in taupe, espresso and trimmed with the varigated teal/brown.. and for the tie front I did a foundation chain and added wooden beads (materials supplied by Bohemian Soul) .... here is a hot fashion item... maybe I should create a bohemian shrug collection...ummmmm.
This project intimidated me because of the use of bold colors and texture... but as time went on... I became comfortable... and with guidance from Deitra at Bohemian Soul I continued on and added my personal embellishments... and after checking out double stitch wear.. I was like wow... (the collection is awesome)... and took an idea from that and finished off the project with a wrap closure.
In pursuit of yarn for a particular project... I came across this batch for just $10.00... yahoooowee... its Bernat Solo - Water... you know what I'm thinking...shrugggggg... I am just so shrug addicted right now... but thought it was a great price... I love it when I come across a good sale.
Pursuant to a customer's request... this handbag was done in a deep red boucle yarn (still a work in progress)... I was a little heavy handed on the contrasting so it looks like candy apple red.. but thought I would put it on the board to get a better picture of what else I need to do to accentuate the positive... I took a peak at the red handbag on MyWeddingFavor site (they have cute wedding stuff if you're in the process of planning a wedding) and think I got an idea or two... so back to the drawing board...
This project (still in the works) was inspired from a pic I saw in Knit n Style Spring & Summer 2006 issue.. the issue featured a Mitered Abstract crop top and I translated it into a crochet crop cardigan (don't ask me how to differentiate between a shrug and crop cardi... don't even think about it... just like the sound of it)... moving right along... so i selected three colors of leftover yarn, which are olive-thyme-fuschia.... instead of the mitered design... I staggered the colors along the back.... now for the bohemian aspect of this piece... its said somewhere... can't remember right now... that the bohemian color wheel consists of jewel tones of purple, green, deep red, turquoise and Fuschia... so with that... I thought bohemian venture was appropriate.
