Perilous Pants Solution.. I think

In search of the right pants for my body shape, I've been working at sewing my pants. I've completed my first Fall pants in a brown suede microfiber, which has a tad bit stretch, and used New Look 6435 pattern, which consists of Pants, Bag, Jacket and Vest.

I cut for a size 16 and tweaked the pattern, which called for a front fly zipper and put the zipper along the side seam. I thought I could get away with not using the yoke, but the pants were fitting weird around the waist, so I put in the yoke and then scaled it down to about a half inch. By doing that it allowed for a better fit and prevented that look of an old woman with her waistband under her breast.

I'm slowly trying to understand my body shape and sew garments that compliment rather than offend....lol. I have a short torso and long legs... (please don't try to visualize that...lol) so with that I can appear appear stocky wearing pants with high yokes. By lowering the waistline of my pants I noticed that I achieved a longer and leaner look. Lastly, I finished the waist off by sewing a ribbon along the waist - I can't do without some type of embellishment....haha!

End result: The pants fit comfortable and compliments my body shape. The fabric is machine washable microfiber and perfect for dressy or casual wear.

Those pants look fantastic on you, your modifications worked well.

Sometimes something looks great on a hanger and like crap on and other times vice versa-these look so nice with you modeling them (not that they looked like crap on the hanger)-the fit on you is perfect and really compliments your figure.

Gah-I hope that came out right

Nice pants. The changes you made are very flattering!

I have figure considerations I alway have to "work with" and wish I knew more about garment construction as I have a hard time getting a good fit.

Thanks for the beautiful compliments. The pattern is a definite repeat. As I venture more into sewing garments, I'm hoping to get a better grasp of tweaking patterns for my body shape, which will allow me to diversity my wardrobe portfolio..lol. A month and half ago I went clothes shopping and picked up a dozen pieces after following myShape.com. I carefully selected pieces that would work for me and in doing so, I noticed the details in the garments, like semi low-rise, wrap, v-neck and a-line, and started thinking - hey try sewing a few pieces with those details in mind. The funny thing is I gotten comments like have you lost weight and oh you look taller...lol Whew!!! I got long-winded here...haha

Love the pants! I am an inverted triangle shape. Broad shoulders and narrow waist. I am two sizes larger on top than on the bottom. It's hard getting a good pant fit when you are six feet tall too. I want to make more flattering choices for my wardrobe too. Hopefully I will get to sewing this fall.

Keep up the good work!
