After Visiting

Carolyn's blog, she left me with food for thought. She posed a question "Have you had high hopes for a pattern and fabric combination and it just wasn't what you expected when you finished it? " I closed out saying that I have high hopes for my dd's garment and thought further, before I continue sewing, do a visual of the dress/tunic.
Our intentions are to use a printed fabric for the yoke. I had to make an adjustment to the garment, I initially cut a size 10 and it was too big and now it fits nicely. She also wants the hemline to hit mid thigh, but I will deal with that later, also we are opting out of the patch pockets. However, she tried it minus the yoke and off enjoying herself at Si.x Flag.s...lol.

Giving further thought to Carolyn's question, I pinned the yoke to the dress and attached one of the sleeves to get a visual of what it would look like. Dd mentioned that she would sport a white belt with it, so took a few pics with some variations.

I'm not too sure about the yoke and thinking I should go with the same fashion fabric for the yoke... what do you think?

Actually if you use the printed yoke, I like the fabric belt view best. The eye has to have somewhere to travel with the printed fabric and the belt gives it a new place to land. If your DD is adamant about the white belt, I would lose the printed yoke...just my opinion!

I would go with one color for the same dress, its remains me of a mccalls dress I made, its one color but the sash is a multicolor silk, and that is what made it work for me, that one little accent to spice it up. This is the link so you can see what I mean:

I hope you get some more advice, I am interested to see how it works out.

I agree with Carolyn.. if you go with the printed yoke use the printed fabric belt.. other wise I would go all one color for the dress.. plus, that way she could use lots of different color options for the belt and change it up when she felt like it... JMO

I think you should make the yoke in the same color as the fashion fabric. I agree with toya, use printed sash to accent.

I would use the contrast as maybe the hem or as a belt.

I think the yoke and the belt should be the same color. It looks cute that way.

I'm not entirely crazy about the yoke but it could work with the printed sash. I think a less detailed pattern for the yoke with work a bit better.

Otherwise I say all one color.

But I am not the fashionista you are.

I like the printed yoke and fabric belt together. I think I'd go with a solid yoke and the white belt. Heck, I don't know! Besides, it's Monday, and you're probably done by now! LOL! BTW, I've been working with the Elann Espirit yarn too! Love it!

Thanks everyone for your helpful advice. I will use the fashion fabric for the yoke and make a belt with the printed fabric. Last nite I was doing the tango with the yoke, its giving me fits.. hopefully I will have a pic of the completed garment soon.

I think the fabric yoke with matching belt would look very nice!

I think the fashion fabric is a good choice. But just for a little contrast - what do you think about dark, baby piping around the fabric belt and/or the yoke? Just a thought.
