June Capsule - Garment 3

My June Capsule Collection has changed dramatically from what I initially planned, which consisted of neutral tones. But as we all know an epiphany strikes and you end up on a detoured road.

Now my revamped clothing capsule - which I'm calling Fashionably Pinstripped, consists of a tank dress, matching cardigan and now slacks. I fretted over how the slacks would work into the scheme of things unnecessarily. My main concern was how I would line the slacks in order that they would not cling to my legs, but it was all in vain. I reached out to Carolyn and she gave me food for thought and after checking out Eileen Fisher knit pants, I was then inspired and dove into sewing them up without the lining and it worked out great.

I used Simplicity 9107 (oop), which consist of knit active wear garments: tank top, halter top and pants.

For the waistband I just sewed 1" elastic to the right side and folded to the inside and stitched. I did not stretch the elastic in that I didn't want the pants gathered at the waist. To add lil weight to the bottom of the pants, I used grosgrain ribbon to hem, using the same technique for the waistband and folded to the wrong side. I tried them on and they fit great and hang well.
I've decided that the accessory will be a purchased item, which will be a belt. Lastly, I will do a top and would like to use silk fabric, but need to determine what color to pair with the pieces... Any ideas....

Use a bright yellow silk or poly like silk for the top! It will add pop to the garments and yellow is the new "it" color for spring!

I am sooooo glad the pants worked out for you without the lining! Can't wait to see the rest of your wardrobe finished!!!

What is the pants made out of? The outfit looks great. These looks can carry you into the colder weather. For summer I would do like a peachy color or a light yellow or even a pretty blue, like cobalt.

Hey! Love the pants! They turned out great and the belt is perfect with them. My first thought is red for a top to go with your capsule, but that's usually always my first thought! I'm not so sure red is your favorite, so maybe a yellow or coral. They'd be great summer colors! Can't wait to see you model your capsule!

Shelia, I just read your comment on my blog and came on over here to tell you that I'm sure you can do a casing (seeing all of the other great looking things I see you do)and low and behold I see you have put a casing in on your pants. I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT! The only thing about putting a casing in on the top that I made was to take a long strip of the fabric about 2" wide and sew it in the middle of the top along the markings, insert the elastic and bam there you go an easy casing. I'm loving your June wardrobe capsule. I have yet to do a swap or a capsule. I think I still need to try and plan one. Contrats, on yours, you are a greatest seamstress!
