New Look 6598

A basic button front blouse with a full facing collar, with front & back darts.
Pattern: New Look 6598, misses blouses with sleeve and collar optionsFabric: quilting weight cotton from Classic Cottons in a deep red with a small floral print

Assembling the body of the blouse was super easy. The collar construction was a different story, and spent a good portion of time trying to figure it out. The collar is a full facing collar, wherein the collar and front facings are one. Once I finally figured it out and looked at it laid out... it resembled some type of winged dinosaur...lol. The pattern called for a back facing, which I felt wasn't necessary, but only after I'd sewn it in.

As for alterations, I changed the sleeve by recutting and omitting the sleeve facing and going with a gathered hem. I shortened the length of the blouse by 1" and instead of the recommended four 5/8" buttons, I used 5 smaller red glass buttons, thereby having to change the buttonhole size. Also I omitted the back ties, which I'm not fond of especially when pairing this blouse with a suit... who needs bulk in the back...lolIn result, a perfect work blouse.
