Butterick 5146 Quagmire

I really like this pattern with its various interchangeable garments and decided to do the dress - View C. Which is a semi-fitted below mid-knee dress with long sleeves.
I'd purchased a ruffle blouse from the Loft, which is very sheer and thought it would look great with the dress. Although the dress is still a work in progress I tried it on and asked my dd her opinion.... well lets say her comment was down right funny. She said I look like Alexandria the Great...lol After wiping the tears from my laughing eyes, I asked her ... its that bad? She said maybe its because she's so use to seeing me in suits.

She continued on, saying she was not feeling the blouse with the dress and added that the blouse would probably look better under a vest or a suit. However, I mentioned to her that the dress needs to be shortened to just above my knees and she continued on ... Ma!... you are pushing it... and says ok what about Madam Lancelot... would that make you feel better...lol

After that mouth full, she did say she liked the style of the dress, but not with the blouse.

I asked dh and his response was you need to shorten the dress and he liked the boots I had on.... go figure.

My take, the dress fits nicely, but would fit better once I add back darts and agree that it needs to be shorten, but unsure about the blouse now.

Any suggestions?

I like it it's cute. I agree with your DH to shorten it a bit like to the knees and wear some high boots that would look totally cute. Love the blouse not a ruffle type of girl but, looks good.:)

I really like the dress and I think the blouse is cute with it...adds a special touch. Your daughter is funny! I love ruffles but thanks to my boobs they're not the best for me but I still wear them sometimes. HA!

lol..my daughter does the same thing to me..they are just too honest.... sometimes I dont even ask her opinion..I like the blouse and it looks good with the dress. Perhaps after you add the darts and shorten it then it may be more appealing to them......

I really like the blouse with it. And I can see boots with it, too.

Both pieces really work well together!

I like the look of the dress and I think the blouse is great. The back of the dress should fit ok as long as you don't have a swayback; otherwise you may want to consider adding darts to the back. Shorten it a bit and wear some high boots

I like the dress but I don't like it with the ruffled blouse, I think it's too white against the gray. I feel bad saying that because everyone else liked it with the blouse. I agree with the boots, maybe a black or berry color blouse would work better with the gray.

Thanks for adding the pics of you wearing the outfit! But I have to tell you all I could think about looking at the pics was that you had to be freezing taking them in the backyard! Gurl, it is COLD here in the northeast again...and you made it look so effortless! :)

I like it! Count on the DHs to always go for the shorter length skirts/dresses and the high boots! Mine will always answer that way as well. LOL!
