I'm so Addicted

to New Look 6571 its super easy and quick, which I like especially for the summer. I was suppose to start on my June Capsule Collection, but decided I needed a few more dresses for the hot weather this week.
For a moment, I thought my serger was a goner. I ended up breaking a needle and totally freaked. As I was removing the remainder of the broken needle it fell between the needle plate and I immediately unplugged it and without thinking turned the machine upside down. Thinking the remainder of the needle would fall out... What a knuckle head!!! I was... of course spools of thread rolled all over the place, leaving me with a tangled mess....ughhh!!.

Of all the sewing notions I buy, I didn't have one spare serger needle. I finally got everything back to order and continued serging, but with only three threads. I must make a note to buy serger needles.

Being that this would be office attire I needed a blazer and didn't have a rtw blazer that would work well with the dress, so I made a cardigan. I used New Look 6150 (oop), which consists of Misses Knit activewear garments: cardigan, tank, pants, long /mid-calf skirts.

The fabric is a dk grey/white pinstripe knit , which is lightweight and knew I needed to stabilize the neck edges and opening. For the cardigan I used ribbon along the opening and sleeve to stabilize. To prevent the neck line from gaping I used 1/2" elastic by sewing it on the right side of the fabric and folded to the inside and did another row of stitching for a neat finish.
I modified the cardigan, which had 3/4 sleeves and just cut for short sleeves. I can't believe I did this all in a day...lol

I loooooooooooooove this outfit.... Its the new twinset...lol.

Heyyy, this could be the beginning of my June Capsule Collection!!!

Who Wore It First...

Daughter & Mom were spotted in New York gliding across Fifth Avenue sporting a lovely animal print. Of course, the ultimate question was asked - Who Wore It First... and after much ado... the Answer - Mom wore it first... b/c she made her dress first....LoL... After completing the garment I was left with 3 yards of this lovely fabric and my dd grabbed it up with a swiftness and did her no-sew move. She loves to wear sarongs and Presto!!! she had whipped up this lovely gown.

After causing an all-time disaster of 3!!! not 1, not 2, but 3 dresses, I licked my wounds and worked up this quick and easy garment. But, will say the reason for my disasters were not wholly my fault....lol. My sewing machine was going on the fritz, and I continued working on the garments and finally after the 3rd dress horror, I knew I had to send my sewing machine to the repair shop.

Well what is a destined sewist to do without a sewing machine.... Well I tried to fix my very first sewing machine, but it was so archaic, that I just put it back in the sewing case and tipped toed on over to Sears and purchased a Kenmore 19233. A gurl's gotta have a back-up ya know....lol.
and my baby girl just celebrated her 20th Birthday Day!!!

Ok... back to looking for my knit project.....
