Simplicity 2956

Misses Knit Dress or Tunic with Bodice and Skirt Variations My daughter participated in a college fashion show and all of the participants were asked to wear a black dress for the Finale' and she asked me to make her a simple black dress. This pattern was super easy, especially being that I was asked to make the dress a mere 4 days before the fashion show. I like all the variations and initially wanted to do the bubble dress version, but felt that my best bet was selecting an easy garment. This is a great pattern in that you can select from 3 different bodices and pair it with one of the 3 skirt variations. I made simple modifications by adding rhinestones along the bodice seam and used lace for the neck ties and lace at the top of the bodice. The funny part about it all.. throughout most of the fashion show I kept asking myself...where in the world is my daughter? You know I was saying to myself.... please ...I hope nothing happened and have to get drastically dramatic up in the place....lol I sat there squirming and wondering if anything was wrong, b/c I had yet to see her come out and at the same time trying to work my new Fuji camera. Mind you, I spent the better part of the week trying to familiarize myself with the darn camera and its functions, only to get to the theatre and not remember half the stuff I was suppose to do...ugggh

Then lo & behold I recognized her and immediately snap a pic.... blurry, but I saw her!!!
and definitely recognized her when she came out during the Finale' and by then had a better handle on the camera... albeit late. After the show I asked her how many times did she appear on the stage, of course, she looked at me like I was crazy.. and asked me what was I doing during the show... my response of course, was ummmmm trying to work my camera...haha

All in all a great show and cute dress.

Here are some pics from the Fashion Show
She's been pressing me to participate in next year's fashion show. Not really sure about it, but will keep it under consideration. So until then... cya

The dress is great, and I'm not sure if I've said it before but she's gorgeous. I think it's great that you're always so willing to make stuff for her... I can't even got my mom to finish the afghan she started my freshman year of college lol.

So looked beautiful in the fashion show!! Did you make the yellow dress too?
It is such a wonderful thing when your own daughter wants you to make her dresses vs. running out to the mall!! Be proud mama! :)

Thank You all the beautiful compliments has me blushing in a major way and feeling that just maybe I could pull off next year's fashion show. However, I need to up my game, being such a conservative dresser, I need to find a lil ump in creating some garments for a fashion show.

My daughter was ecstatic over the dress and last night I started guiding her on making her first sewn garment. Stay tuned for her FO...lol

@ Virtuous: Thanks for asking, but I didn't make the yellow dress. It was part of the designer's collection. After she wore it, my daughter raided by pattern chest and pulled out 3 maxi dress patterns...haha
