I have Not

crocheted a garment in 3 years... can't believe it!!! After completing my nieces wrestling gear the urge to crochet was so overwhelming that I immediately jumped on it.

I browsed through my stash of crochet magazines and found a simple pattern from a May 2006 Crochet! mag.  The pattern is titled A Little Night Magic Cardigan and of course I tweaked it. The instructions calls for black Lion Brand Incredible Bulky yarn and glitterspun yarn, instead I opted for Bernat Chunky yarn in red.

Close-up of the pattern pic...
The pattern was straight forward no hiccups which made it easy to tweak the pattern.  The stitches for the pattern are double crochet (dc) and single crochet (sc) and I opted for sc throughout the garment.

Also, I wanted pockets on this garment and tried my hand at steeking.  I checked out Zimmermania steeking tutorial on how to steek using crochet stitches, but opted to machine steek and proceeded by marking the area for the pockets and slowly sewed parallel lines using dark red thread.

Then came the scary part of having to cut into my nearly completed garment and really not sure if this was going to work out....

There...I Did It!!! crocheted along the raw edges and then sat wondering what to use for the pocket bags and staring at me was my 4"x4" swatches and decided to increased them to 5-1/2" squares.

The crochet edging added bulk to the pocket openings, but it was done.

Here is a close-up of the garment flat.

and the crochet pocket bag, which housed my office key card and cellphone.

I also added a collar.

Instead of 3/4 sleeves I did long sleeves and lengthened it.  After everything was completed I soaked it in fabric softner and blocked... it took several days and became worried that it was taking too long and bravely chucked it into the dryer the end result....

A soft, warm and comfortable sweater jacket that was perfect for a Casual Friday at the office.

I will leave you with a Crochet flashback moment... circa 2005...

I think I have that magazine! LOL! The jacket is beautiful! Since the weather has been cooling off I've been hankerin' to pull out the yarn and hooks. I haven't knit or crocheted since last winter.

I haven't crocheted anything in years either. I'd probably crochet a lot faster than I would knit because it goes quicker. I love that jacket!

Thank You All for the Beautiful Compliments. Since my crocheting mojo is going strong I've started another one, but more as a cardigan than jacket since the yarn isn't chunky.

You made this??!! It is amazing! I love everything about it - the preppy shape, the cool color. You are so multi-talented that it makes me sick (i.e. jealous).

Seriously, I want to begin crocheting b/c of this jacket.
