Silk Bamboo

by Patons in sapphire was a dream to work with.  The yarn is silky soft with a sheen and if done in a dress or skirt... offers the ultimate drape factor.  I will note that the yarn began splitting when I used an aluminum hook but once I switched to a plastic hook  it was smooth sailing thereafter.  Although it was smooth sailing this was a month long project, the garment grew very slowly, regardless of how fast I crocheted...lol

This top is a modified version of the Ooowee Sweater I made in February.  Since the yarn is a dk weight and I used worsted weight for the previous sweater, I had to make some minor changes to the pattern.

As the project progressed along I realized that the 8 balls I purchased may not be enough, although I initially thought that 816 yards would be sufficient to complete the top.  Once I started on the 7th ball, I quickly made a trip to Joann's where I bought it, only to find out that they didn't have any more.  So I headed over to AC Moore and they had a basket full and better yet on sale 2 for $6.00.  In the end, it took 9 balls  for a total of 916 yards to complete.

The entire garment was worked top down in slip stitches, which I am loving. The stitch doesn't have any height when compared to the single crochet stitch.   If worked in the round, the stitches resemble knit stitches, but oddly, when worked back and forth it resembles single crochet with less height. Since the hemline curled constantly, I did 2 rows of single crochet which stopped the curling in its tracks....lol

Here is a Youtube video demonstrating slip stitches:

Conclusion... love....love the yarn and looking forward to making more of these tops as well as using Patons' silk bamboo again.  A woman can never have too many...eh..

Off to finish a summer cardigan...and possibly another OTT.

Have a Great Week

So cute, love the color. I was lusting after that yarn just the other day, considering it for a cardigan in the latest issue of crochet.
