Butterick 5147 w/ McCalls 5978

While on vacation I had the opportunity to visit a quaint fabric shop in Waynesville, Mo.

Although small, the shop had a nice selection of fabrics.  I drooled over the table full of batiks and at the same time kept reminding myself that I only had so much room in my suitcase. However, a few days later, I ended up buying a few more pieces at the Walmart in St. Ann, Mo.

Walked away with just 4 measly pieces.

Left - Right: blue floral Batik, black/grey Challis, splattered Batik & an abstract stretch Charmeuse

The first pick from my fabric souvenir haul was the blue floral batik and immediately pinned Butterick 5147 skirt pattern for it.  The skirt is a quasi-pencil skirt with front & back darts, back zipper and back slit.

Removed 1/2" from from the side seams, tappered the bottom a bit more and for the waist, which is bandless, I used Dritz Waist Maker Tape.

I'd purchased the waist maker tape from Virgo Fabrics some time ago, which is a small shop in Brooklyn where you can find nifty notions.   Now wishing I had gotten more at $.50 a pop, which is perfect for keeping the waist of the skirt from rolling.  Vogue Fabric carries it, but at $4.69 a pop.

Made a quick top using McCalls 5978 (my TnT tank top pattern) and used sleeves from Butterick 5313
The skirt wore well throughout the day and have another waiting to be sewn up.

Oh my - I think that skirt is my favorite thing that you have done to date! Tres chic!

I also love that you refer to 4 new pieces of fabric as "measly". LOL. Thank goodness I'm not the only one who is not on a fabric diet!!
