was to be the perfect dress for my sister's Birthday Celebration.
The first dress was made up in a knit with very little fitting issues. Knowing that I would be working with a woven, I did a 3/4" fba, raised the neckline and added waist darts to the front. The neckline and armholes were serged and folded 1/4" to the inside and final stitched.
For the hemline I used a zigzag stitch with a width setting @ 3.5 and the length at 1.50.
The dress went together quickly once the changes were made to the pattern.
Then my sister clarified that the court yard venue was a euphemsism for BBQ B-day celebration and I felt the dress was a bit too much.
and I went into full throttle mode and opted for something casual... Simplicity 1849... using left over silver metallic knit from the first B5706.
Paired S1849 with refashioned pants to shorts and my favorite 9West peep toe pumps....
and then the heavy winds started, then torrential rains and a tornado touching down in Queens & Brooklyn...
... well you can finish the rest of the story....
Until then Have a Great Weekend...

That dress looks great on you. I'm not game enough to try one of those hemlines yet.
Had the hem of the dress not been asymmetrical and to the knee, I would have worn it anyway only with a low sandal, even flats. Still, the dress and top look great.
Thanks Carol and Karine.
@ Carol, initially I wasn't game, but after seeing several in sewing land, thought I should step outside my comfort zone.
The dress is lovely but that top rocks!
The dress looks great on you and the top fantastic.
You did a great job with the dressess and the blouse. Love the asymmetrical dress and you did step out your comfort zone. Awesome!
Cute dress and great paired with those incredible shoes. The top is a wonderful use of some left over fabirc.
Both the dress and the top look great on you, Very cute photos.

@ Michelle & Lori, that pattern has now become my tnt & have made 5 and looking forward to making long sleeve versions.
@Alethia, I will definitely make another one when the occasion arise. It makes for a nice party dress.
@Rhonda, the shoes are from 9west.
Oh wow, both pieces are stunning. I love the metallic knit for the Simplicity pattern. I have that pattern out on my table. It's one I want to make soon. It looks fantastic on you!
Both pieces are cute and I really like how you used the leftover piece of metallic knit! Glad you finally got the Butterick dress pattern to work for you!
Are the ankle tie shoes new this year or have you had them a while? They look super comfortable and add a little "bad girl" air to the outfit!! They look great with the asymmetrical hem of the dress.
Love that top!!!! Be safe!
How stunning. Your wardrobe is getting more gorgeous with each piece you add.
Love a top with a little bit of shiny! The top and the dress will be great to have in your wardrobe.
Wow! I love both the red dress and the silver top! so I am sure you looked absolutely gorgeous on the night. I reallylike that asymmetrical hemline on the red dress. Looks fantastic :)
So now that you've made the uneven hemline dress, how do you feel about it?
Thank you for the lovely compliments.
#Mushywear, its a great pattern and adds a little twist to slacks/ shorts or skirt.
@Rhonda, the ankle strap shoes are from last summer, but DSW Shoes carry 9west out of season stock. Nothing like a little badass factor...lol
@Adelaide, yes I like it and its something different from my usual party attire.
Work it Sheila! The dress and top are both lovely! I certainly hope you weren't out in that horrible rain storm.
The dress is great but I *need* to try my hand at that top now. Perfect for the office. Just lovely!
Are you fixing to spank somebody with that belt?! LOVE the dress, especially the shoes, and the shiny top is awesome!
I agree, while the dress is nice, that top is FABULOUS! I have the pattern in my que and hope it turns out as nice as yours!
Nice garments, Sheila Baby!!! Thanks for including your machine settings for the dress :)
Thanks Ladies,
@ Rosie, no I didn't venture out in that rain... the party was cancelled.
@ Sara, definitely make the top it makes a perfect work top... I made several for work.
@ Sister, Lol. Initially, I had the belt on and then didn't like the way it looked and figured I'd use it as a prop...lol
@ Myra, looking forward to your top.
@ Monica, I opted to use my sewing machine because I wasn't confident using the roll hem on my serger.
