Starting at the Top

Faye is hosting Starting at the Top,which is a great way to add new blouses to your wardrobe, revitalize old garments and like Faye stated jump start Spring/Summer sewing. I enjoy Faye's top challenges and still have tops from her very first challenge.

My first top is New Look 6901... Review Here

Top #2 is Simplicity (It's So Easy) 1849:  Misses knit tops with cross-over twist detail and sleeve options.

Faye's challenge is perfect.... I wanted a top for my faux leather skirt and the challenge jump started it.  This pattern was a joy to work up and works up in about 3 hours.  I used a funky bold print in a poly/lycra fabric.

The instruction calls for front/back facings, but opted to just serge the neckline and fold to the inside and final stitch.  Honestly, the front facing is almost a full front facing, add the front piece and the overlay would cause me to combust.  Also the instructions direct to cut the front piece flat, I cut it on the fold.  If one looks closely at the pic my twist is on the right side instead of the left.... oops, but its all good.

Lengthened the sleeves, serged all the seams and serged the hemline and folded to the inside.  I'd initially did the same for the sleeve hems, but the stitching was wonky and unstitched that and used interfacing and hand stitched the sleeve hems.

I am head over heels for this pattern and immediately made another one.   Used a cotton/lycra knit in coral to pair with my latest New Look 6874 in black/white houndstooth.  Initially, I'd plan to wear the charteuse blouse with the skirt, but ended up wearing that blouse with a suit.

Until then Have a Beautiful Easter.

Jeans on Good Friday

Good Friday + Half Day = Simplicity 4273 which I call my jean slacks.  They do not have all the jean attributes, but denim material nevertheless... right?  Customarily, I do not fall in step with the weekly Jean Friday crowd, but once a month works.

I've made this pattern several times here, here, & here and was successful and readily coined it a TnT. However, I made them again (Something is Sew Not Suitable) and all kinds of wickedness happened.  Despite that last nightmare with the pattern, I enjoy wearing my jean slacks and will try making another pair from it.

Donning S4273 with a Target cardigan & tank.

Have a Blessed Triduum & and Happy Easter

From Infinity to simple

Realizing I only had one functional black dress decided to fix Butterick 5606 the infinity dress, which I code named the samurai dress because of the extremely long ties.

Pullover dress that's close-fitting at the bust, slightly flared skirt and ties extending from the side seams which offers a variety of ways to wear the dress

Don't get me wrong a pretty dress if you can keep the ties just right, also did not like that the ties are sewn at the side seams at the hip... giving me the feeling of bat wings on my hips.

I still want an infinity dress and plan to make the one I did for my daughter Burda 7352 .  B5606 will definitely be made again minus the ties.

Prior to making the dress exactly as pictured on the envelope, I'd made two dresses from the same pattern minus sewing the ties to the side seams and instead made independent sashes.

The style line of this dress is simple and can be dressed up or down and accessorized without the ties sewn to the side seams. These dresses worked well last summer and looking forward to donning them again.

for another functional black dress, cut off the ties, removed some of the excess from the side seams and ended up with a simple black dress

paired with a Target cardigan and a hot pink skinny belt from my daughter.

made for a comfortable outfit today.
