Simplicity 1355 Stripes & Gypsy Paisleys

Sewing this garment threw me into a moment of the 60s where everything was about free love, free spirit, social movements and of course paisleys.  I was a youngin but not to young to rock paisleys and marvel at all the huge afros that were the rage.

I was tickled thinking back on how I cried to my mom that I wanted an afro.  She gave me the side eye and told me to sit down somewhere, especially after spending an evening corn braiding my hair as well as my sisters.  However, I did get a paisley print dress and I just knew I was a rock star...lol.

Eventually, I gravitated to paisley bandanas, and wore them proudly with the consent of my mom to don an afro.  Oh how I wore my afro proudly, but it was short -lived, when it was time to get my hair done at the end of the week and being a tender head, I quickly rebuked all that was an afro, I even rebuked the afro puffs. I couldn't handle how tangled my hair would become. Of course, with the demise of my short-lived afro, my love of paisleys evaporated as well.

Fast forward, obviously my love for paisleys wasn't totally a lost love.  My daughter sent me this stripe & gypsy paisley knit fabric some time ago.  I let it take residence in my fabric bin as I was undecided on what I wanted to make out of it.   Well finally, I did... in come Simplicity 1355 again...

this time I opted for a strapless bodice, basically cut a rectangle to fit my circumference and serged the lone seam. Created a 1-1/2" fold at the bodice top and sewed, leaving an opening for the elastic.   Thereafter,  completed the pant seams and sailed along attaching the strapless bodice to the waist of the pants, used flexi hem lace to make a casing and thread 1/2" elastic through it and finished off with hemming the pants.

End result... a comfy jumper that's perfect for a fun weekend and will definitely rock to work on a casual Friday.

That takes me back through the time machine also. Great colors for summer. It really pops out and boosts the mind. Pairing it with a jacket really dressed it up.

This fabric is so perfect for your beautiful jumpsuit. I think we both are having a flashback - you for paisley and I for the jumpsuit.
