Butterick 5606: Then & Now

Butterick 5606 dress has some potential, if one can keep the ties from slipping, but in the end with the ties sewn at the side seams, the dress was too fiddly.  I wore it once and the ties were just too shifty for me, I kept having to adjust them.

2012
In need of a simple black dress, I cut off the ties, removed some of the excess from the side seams and ended up with a simple black dress.

The dress was too big and added a casing and elastic for a better fit.

2014
With some weight gain, the elastic was too tight and cut a small opening in the casing and removed the elastic.

Ahhh the dress fits much better at the waist.  With all that said B5606 makes for a great summer dress without the ties and has become another one of my slip on, top it off and go summer dresses.

Until then have a Great Week.

I like the dress in all of its phases. Great use and remake of a LBD that works well with small jackets and belts as well as on its own.

Thanks Linda. I find that the simpler the garment the more miles it gives.

I have that pattern and always wondered about those monstrous ties. In any event, you did a great job in refashioning/saving it. I wish I thought of that before I donated some of my sewn clothes last week. Oops. =)

Thank you L. Before giving clothes away I give them a second look to see if there is still some life left in them.
