Butterick 6166

I love a simple silhouette, mainly due to it working seamlessly with my blazers.  However, once in a while I yearn for something else with a lil interest.  In come Butterick 6166:  Misses Dress: Close-fitting dress has front overlay and drape, narrow hem and back zipper. Designed for lightweight moderate stretch knits.

                                               Version A

Pattern Sizing: 6 - 14

Fabric Used: Purple/black/grey/white abstract slinky knit

Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions are clear and easy.

What do I particularly like about the pattern? Love the drape waist detail and it's great for hiding one's fupa ... ooops ... I mean tummy bulge.

Pattern alterations I made:  I went with a 14 for the body & armhole and 12 for the neckline & shoulder seams.  Cut the front on the fold and center back seam for the back, in the event I had to make adjustments.  Omitted the overlay, which would have been a bit much for pairing with a blazer.  I also omitted the zipper as well, lowered  the front neckline 1/2", serged all seams @ 3/8", then straight stitched an additional 1/8" give or take.

The waist drape is a  really nice detail, but must admit, it pulls the side seams toward the side front a lil bit.  However, it doesn't break the overall look and feel of the dress.   Another point to mention is that the armholes are a tad too low on the sleeveless version, but not too low to reveal major armpit cleavage. At 5'3" this dress finish length ends just above my knees with a 1/2" folded hem.

Fully lined the dress with a ltwt. lycra mesh and machine hemmed the lining and fused the fashion fabric hemline w/ no-sew heatn'bond.

If one is looking for a dress with a lil twist check out Butterick 6166 and give it a try.

Until then,
Have a Great Week !!

This is a lovely dress! The alterations you made work well. I think it would have been to much with the overlay as well. 😊
