Bang for my Buck

I love to get a bang for my buck when I use a pattern, I am of the sewing mind... maximize the outcome with the least amount of input.

As I am sure, most of us are attracted to the model garment on a pattern envelope.  However, I like to go a lil deeper and check out the schematic.  Sometimes, going a step further and letting my mind's eyes envision how much bang for my buck can I get from this pattern.

Butterick 6166 is one of those patterns wherein I can see getting a bang for my buck.  I was instantly drawn to the drape waist detail.  But envisioned it without the overlay, as well as just a simple silhouette.

For my first make, I opted out of the overlay.

My second bang for my buck was working it up into a simple silhouette a/k/a t-shirt dress.  Again just a quick process of elimination... omitted the overlay and waist detail.

Also there are other factors in getting a bang for my buck... how well will the garment work when I pair it with a blazer.  The first make worked well alone and/or with a standard cut blazer.  However, when I  paired it with a motto jacket... naw... a denim... ughhh ... a cropped jacket no..no.

The second make works well alone and with a variety of jackets, motto style, crop jacket, denim, as well as a standard cut blazer....

OOTD ...
paired it with a a standard cut Target blazer and Charlotte Russe cognac pumps...

This dress gets more wear than my first make, however, I love them both the same... lol.   The next bang for my buck is working it up with just the base dress and overlay... wish me luck.

Until then,
Have a Great Day!!!

I haven't visited your blog in a while (I go in and out of reading blogs). I love the new layout!

Great looking dresses! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on looking beyond what the pattern model/illustration.

I like both! The silhouette is flattering and there is no way for a person to realize that they come from the same pattern!

You definitely got your bang for the buck with this pattern! Some lovely dresses for sure… I agree with Faye, we will both be fighting to get the burgundy dress in our closets, LOL!

I love both the printed version and the solid color version but I can see how the solid color dress gets more wear. Can I tell you that I looked at your heels with shoe lust! *LOL* I miss wearing heels!
