Simplicity 8379 - The Comfort Dress

Happy Friday !!!! Yes the weekend has started and I am readdddddy.

With the weekend started I am sharing a dress that I never thought I'd sew.  I said neverrrrrrr, I initially coined it the garbage bag dress because of the style line.  Well let me eat my words... after seeing Alethia of Sew Much Talent fb live her dress... I was sold.  Seriously, she was able to video the construction of her dress and then model it for us... Now that was Awesome.  Thanks Alethia for inspiring me !!!

Simplicity 8379 is a pull on sleeveless dress with side drape detail and suggested fabric is none other than my favorite ... Knit fabric !!!!

The pattern consist of 3 pieces, dress, armhole binding and neckline binding.  Honestly, to me it is one piece. I rarely use the pattern binding pieces.

There is not much to say about this pattern, other than that it is the ultimate comfort dress.  If you need a dress to knock around in... this is it.  It's loose fitting and sooooooo comfortable.  As for fitting, I did my usual modus operandi and used a dress I'd made to check armhole, neckline, and length.

For fabric I used a black/white abstract knit from my stash.  Since I was cutting it close with fabric yardage, I have a center back seam. After placing one of my me-made dresses on the pattern, I went with a size small.

Construction was smooth sailing, serged the seams, set my brother serger settings from right to left, 4, 4, 2, & 1.  For the armholes and neckline I serged, stitched 1/4" clear elastic and folded to the inside for a final stitch. The hemline was also serged and folded 1/4" to the inside and final stitched.  Easy peasy... donedot com

Actually, I ended up wearing the dress for an early evening date with my beloved to Ansai and it was perfect.

It hid the after meal bulge and was down right comfortable.

I love that it look great with heels and my guy lovvvvved it.

Listen... listen... this dress is bound to be the summer hottie...

Then turned around and wore it today... yes... I am gully like that.... lol

I love the comfort factor... did I say that already..

Of course, one of my fur babies had to get in on the action... Mr. Ayden..... always looking for a love rub...lol

Until then,
Have an Awesome Weekend !!!

Thank you Sol Searching! Yes, clear elastic is great for armholes & necklines. I purchased (100 yds) 1/2" and 1/4" clear elastic from eBay a few years ago. I find it to be cheaper

Sheila, I know the feeling as I am working so much on quilts at the church that I haven't made anything for myself. I've got to plan better.
